Six Nations organisers have strongly denied reports that they're seeking to expand the tournament.
There's been speculation that world champions South Africa could be added to the competition from 2025, with reports that Italy could potentially be removed.
South Africa confirmed their commitment to The Rugby Championship for the next three seasons earlier this week and it was claimed that the Springboks held talks about a possible switch to the northern hemisphere competition.
But Six Nations Rugby and investment firm CVC have poured cold water on those reports.
"Six Nations Rugby, comprising the six Unions and Federations and CVC, wish to confirm that they are not entertaining any discussion nor developing any plans to add or replace any participating Union," they said in a joint statement.
"All its energy is focused on the current strategic discussions regarding the July and November international windows and structure of the global season, and to ensure a positive outcome for the development of the game."
🗣️ The Six Nations Championship is a fantastic tournament and you need a very good reason to alter it.
ROG on South Africa possibly joining the Six Nations and the introduction of a "World League".
