Dublin goalkeeper Ciara Trant joined Monday's Off The Ball to reflect on her team's magnificent four-in-a-row triumph and she also gave great insight on modern-day goalkeeping.
"I’d say shot shopping is probably the least important responsibility of a goalkeeper in the modern game," Trant explained.
"You have to nail your communication, nail your kick-outs and nail your high balls.
"Yesterday I think I might have had 13 kick outs which is the fewest in any game this year or over the last couple of years and one shot on goal and it was a cracker of a shot as well.
"The rest of it was communication. Shot stopping is the least of my worries. The main job is distribution and restarts."
In the lead up to the final, a lot was made of Dublin's strength advantage.
"We feel fit, we look fit," Trant said.
"Compared to other years though it has been kind of an individual effort. Since we have been back, there hasn’t been a massive emphasis on fitness and strength.
"Our strength and conditioning work has just been to keep us ticking over and to maintain the levels that we are at.
"Everybody worked really hard over lockdown and we came back flying fit. Massive respect to individual players for putting themselves in such great shape and that just shows the attitude in the team."
Trant was asked if a goalkeeper really needed to work on their fitness.
"I wouldn’t like to be a goalkeeper who cheats all the hard work by going off and doing their own training when the other players are getting their legs run off them," she said.
"To be mentally fit you have to be physically fit as well and our training sessions are always so driven but so full of fun and enjoyment also.
