Sergio Ramos ends glittering 16-year spell at Real Madrid

Real Madrid have confirmed that Sergio Ramos will leave the club this summer.

The 35-year old's contract at the Bernabeu expires at the end of June, and talks regarding an extension have proved fruitless.

Ramos had reportedly been unhappy with the proposal of a reduced salary and a short-term deal.

The defender joined Real from Sevilla in 2005, and has been party to an incredible sixteen years at the club.

He won four Champions Leagues, five La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey with Real.

In a brief statement, the club say they will stage a tribute and farewell to their captain, led by president Florentino Perez.

A return to Sevilla this summer has been mooted.

It's been a humbling few weeks for Ramos. Not only was he able to come to terms with a club for whom he's made 671 appearances, he was also omitted from Spain's Euro 2020 squad. La Roja head coach Luis Enrique preferred to leave his squad two players shy of the full compliment than bring the World Cup winner.
