'It hurt more to lie down' - Schmidt

There is less than a year to go now until Ireland get their Rugby World Cup campaign underway against Canada.

Already, head coach Joe Schmidt is working on improvements to a team that won the Six Nations and completed a November clean sweep.

The New Zealander joined Oisin Langan to look back on 2014, but also to muse about what 2015 could deliver.

One of the areas they spoke about was the scrum and how that part of Ireland's game can be improved.

"The scrum is a fickle enough area. There were a few times during the Guinness Series that we felt the scrum wasn't as square as it needed to be and we're trying to stay as square as we can. It makes it very, very difficult," said Schmidt.

He also talked about how he managed to deal with the acute pain of appendicitis while on the sideline for the win over Australia.

"Probably the toughest thing was that I hadn't slept. It hurt more to lie down," he admitted.

Oisin was also joined by one of the heroines of Ireland's run to the Women's World Cup semi-final in Niamh Briggs, who looked back on the legacy of their journey and comparisons to Italia 90.
