Manchester United's first bid for Jadon Sancho rejected - BBC

Manchester United's first official transfer bid for Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho has been rejected by the German club, according to reports emerging on Thursday.

Sancho is a long-standing target for the Old Trafford club following a drawn-out pursuit that led to Dortmund setting a deadline for a deal to be done that was missed.

With hopes higher that a deal will be concluded this summer, the BBC report that a £75m bid has been turned down due to the amount and terms offered. It is not thought to be a terminal blow to the transfer.

Jadon Sancho & Solskjaer deal

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given a new deal at Manchester United, despite ending up empty-handed in the hunt for trophies this season.

The club will also back Solskjaer in the transfer market this summer, according to the Telegraph.

Renewed questions have emerged in football media regarding the managerial acumen of Solskjaer, who saw his Red Devils beaten on penalties by Villarreal in the Europa League Final.

United finished second, 12 points behind neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League season just gone, and the unpopular owners, the Glazer family, are set to authorise spending on a striker, a defender, a wide forward and a midfielder in the close season.

Sancho is seen as the top transfer target for United, who have also been linked with Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Solskjaer also has to make a decision around his goalkeepers, with David de Gea and Dean Henderson vying for the number one jersey. De Gea failed to save any penalties in the shoot-out against Villarreal.
