Munster Head Coach Johann van Graan has refused to speculate on the nature of Tadhg Beirne's injury after the lock went off injured during Munster's 15-6 loss to Saracens at Allianz Park.
Van Graan sounded naturally disappointed speaking to Off The Ball's Neil Treacy after the game and gave an update on his side's three injury worries from the day; Peter O'Mahony, Beirne and John Ryan.
"We lost Pete in the warm-up, it looks like a groin injury. We lost Tadhg it looks pretty serious."
Beirne had to be stretchered off after his left leg twisted under himself during a tackle and the Ireland international could be seen inhaling for pain relief to stabilise while departing the pitch.
Asked whether Beirne's injury was to do with his ankle, van Graan refused to speculate beyond the initial signs that it was a serious injury.
"I have got no idea. I don't know," van Graan commented.
"I don't even want to speculate on it. I haven't spoken to him. Obviously John Ryan [went off injured] then with his calf, so it was hugely disrupting but, you know, that's rugby.
"Like I said I'm incredibly proud of the guys we gave it all we got. It was very disappointing to lead for a very long part of the game but unfortunately in the last 15 minutes, they got in front.
"The positive is they didn't get a fourth try. That's the tough thing about sport, it was a massive battle and we came short."
The injuries are an additional worry for new Ireland Head Coach Andy Farrell who has already been hit with the injury doubt of Johnny Sexton for the start of the Six Nations campaign.
The Leinster man suffered a medial ligament tear during last Saturday's Heineken Champions Cup win over Northampton at Franklin's Gardens.
Munster's next Heineken Champions Cup game is against pool leaders Racing 92 in Paris on January 12th.
