One of the star performers for Scarlets as the Welsh side beat Munster in Saturday's Guinness Pro 12 final was Irishman Tadhg Beirne.
The 24 year old Kildare native came through the Leinster academy and made a handful of senior appearances before signing for Scarlets in the summer of 2016 where he has gone on to make 24 appearances for the Welsh region.
The second and back row and former Ireland under-20 international scored a 31st minute try against Munster in the 46-22 win at Aviva Stadium and speaking to Off The Ball on Monday evening, The Irish Times rugby journalist Gavin Cummiskey set out the case for bringing the player back to Irish shores.
"I've got to give him credit," said Cummiskey of Beirne's try, "He ran straight at Dave Kilcoyne."
"Tadhg Beirne, who is a Clongowes guy, didn't make it through from the Leinster academy because of other second rows in his way and injury. This guy has to be brought home in a year. He ran straight at Dave Kilcoyne, hit, twisted, straight into CJ Stander, hit, twisted and carried Scannell over the line with him. It does get better and better and you have to give Scarlets credit and especially him.
"He got a turnover against Leinster which shut the game in the RDS and the roar that shook the place. He's 6"6', he's built like everything and completely slipped through the net."
