Johnny Sexton will undergo a scan to examine the extent of a knee injury he suffered against Northampton on Saturday.

After a close-fought first half, Leinster went on to trounce the Saints 16-43 at Franklin's Gardens in the Champions Cup.

While Leo Cullen will be happy with his side's performance, Sexton's injury in the second half will be a big worry heading into next week's reverse fixture in the Aviva Stadium.

Sexton looked in discomfort after a tackle by Matt Procter early in the second half and had to be assisted off the pitch.

The bonus-point win was a welcome step in Leinster's aim to return to the Champions Cup final, the stage they lost to against Saracens last season.

Speaking after the match Cullen confirmed that his number '10' would have to go for a scan to get further information on the injury.

“He has a bit of strapping on his knee. He will get a scan tomorrow and we’ll see the extent of it.

“He’s a little uncomfortable there at the moment,” added Cullen.

“I don’t know the extent of it, but we’ll find out . He has a bit of strapping on his knee. I'm not sure exactly [how he is] to tell you the truth."

Leinster will kick off against Northampton at 5.15pm next Saturday at the Aviva Stadium.
