September return for Carbery, De Allende set for August Munster debut

Munster say that Joey Carbery is scheduled to return to action in September.

The out-half underwent surgery in February on the ankle he injured in last year’s World Cup warm-up win over Italy.

Carbery's elective ankle surgery came on top of a wrist tendon injury sustained upon his initial return to place in December.

Meanwhile, Tadhg Beirne, Damian de Allende, Keith Earls and Calvin Nash should all return from injury when the Pro 14 resumes in August.

Beirne sustained a fractured ankle in December's Heineken Champions Cup defeat away to Saracens and also required surgery.

Prop John Ryan has undergone a minor operation on his shoulder and will begin rehab.

Travel restrictions meant that both CJ Stander and Chris Cloete only returned from South Africa and must self-isolate for 14-days before they're allowed rejoin the group.

A truncated Guinness Pro14 season is due to resume with a series of local derbies in late August.

With that target in mind, the Munster squad reconvened at the High Performance Centre in Limerick on Monday for the first time since lockdown.

Senior players and high performance staff began to be tested for COVID-19 last week, and to date there have been no positive results.

Training at their UL base is restricted to "pods" of seven players, with a coach assigned to each. There is no interaction between those pods, and strict hygiene measures are in place.

Players are temperature checked upon their arrival every day to the High Performance Centre. Showers are not allowed, and things like video analysis rooms are not in use.

Munster say the High Performance Unit has its own designated COVID-19 manager "to ensure all the protocols that have been directed and overseen centrally by the IRFU are being followed."
