'You have to suck it up and keep as positive as you can'

Last season was a pretty injury-ravaged one for Sean O'Brien.

Missing large chunks of Leinster's season, the Tullow Tank also missed Ireland's Six Nations triumph.

Those setbacks have made the 27-year-old especially hungry ahead of the new season and tonight he joined us on the show to talk about his recent contribution to GAA, pre-season and the upcoming campaign.

"It was one of those things where I wanted to be involved. But you have to suck it up and keep as positive as you can. I still got back about a month and a half before I should have," he said.

"I was minding myself as best as possible and trying to get the weight back on after the operation - and then trying to keep it off once I got back training!"

O'Brien's pre-season has gone well so far he confirmed and thinks it will stand him in good stead.

"I think when you're going on Tours and playing international games every year, it's hard to get a full pre-season. A full pre-season is 8 - 10 weeks of hard training whereas in the past, we've had 4 or 5 weeks and then we'd be back playing games," said the 2013 Lion, who also spoke about his awareness that he must make the most of his career.

O'Brien has also been working with the Wexford hurlers and the Carlow footballers during the off-season.

"With Carlow, I just gave them a ring while I was doing my rehab. With the Wexford lads, I knew a couple of the boys who asked me to come in once or twice. It was limited in terms of what I was doing. But if I can pass on something to friends, that's all it really was."
