Scarlets' Steff Evans cleared to play against Munster

Scarlets' wing Steff Evans has been cleared to play in Saturday's Guinness Pro 12 final against Munster at the Aviva Stadium.

The 22 year old former Wales under-20 cap was red carded in last week's win over Leinster for a tackle on Leinster centre Garry Ringrose, but a disciplinary panel has overturned that decision.

The panel decided Evans' tackle on Ringrose only became dangerous as a result of the intervention of Scarlets' prop, Samson Lee.

In a statement explaining the decision, the Pro 12 stated: "The Disciplinary Panel – Roddy Dunlop QC (Chair), Roddy MacLeod and Iain Leslie (all Scotland) – decided, by a majority, that the Player undertook a lawful tackle in a manner that was consistent with the laws of the game.

"The tackle only became dangerous as a result of the intervention of Scarlets No 3 (Samson Lee). The Panel having directed itself under reference to the decision of the Appeal Committee in Ross Ford and Jonny Gray (RWC 2015) decided, by a majority, that this meant that the red card should be rescinded.

"The player is therefore free to play."

Despite the red card which occurred shortly before half time, Scarlets were able to defeat Leinster at the RDS by a 27-15 scoreline to advance to a Pro 12 final against Munster which will also be on Irish soil.
