Ronan O'Gara acknowledges All Blacks vacancy could have knock-on effect

Former Irish international Ronan O'Gara has reiterated the ease with which his working circumstances could change in the coming year on Monday's OTB AM as a managerial flux surrounding New Zealand's national rugby team.

However, enjoying his experience with the Crusaders as he is, the former Munster man is certainly not courting any seismic shift in role in the near future, and is simply looking to take things as they come.

In an interview carried out with the New Zealand Herald, O'Gara, working as a coach under Scott Robertson at Crusaders, admitted that he would not fear the temptation of moving up the pecking order at the New Zealand club if, as has been rumoured in light of Steve Hansen's post-World Cup departure, Robertson took over the All-Blacks.

"I wouldn't be scared of putting my name in if it was the right thing to do," O'Gara explained.

However, having formed a productive working relationship with Robertson at Crusaders, the alternative suspicion that O'Gara could be lured onto the prospective head coach's backroom team hasn't gone unnoticed either.

"Everything is possible," O'Gara stated, "I'm ambitious and competitive but I think the most important thing is if I do my job these things look after themselves."

"Sure, it could easily be an option," O'Gara stated matter-of-factly on Monday's OTB AM.

Although O'Gara is making no assumptions regarding who will eventually replace the successful Steve Hansen as head coach of the All Blacks, it is generally understood that Robertson, fresh from winning successive Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders, will be in the discussion.

Should that occur, O'Gara may well then find himself with a decision of his own to make.
