Robbie Henshaw and Johnny Sexton both ruled out for Australia clash

The toll of Ireland's gruelling and highly physical game against New Zealand on Saturday evening is still being assessed but the initial reports are not good.

Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw both look set to miss Ireland's clash with Australia this weekend at the Aviva Stadium after both were withdrawn from action during the first half of the defeat to the All Blacks.

Henshaw was "knocked unconscious" after a tackle from Sam Cane which saw his jaw collide with Cane's shoulder. The All-Black has since been cited for the tackle.

Both he and Malakai Fekitoa both face disciplinary hearings on Tuesday for "allegedly dangerous tackles".

Sexton, meanwhile, looks set to miss out after suffering a minor hamstring injury during the game. He left the field just six minutes after Henshaw, who was withdrawn with the aid of medical staff.

Full-back Rob Kearney also developed 'concussive symptoms' after the game and will follow the return to play protocols. Another player who will also follow return to play protocols is CJ Stander. The Munster man had to undergo a HIA (Head Injury Assessment) and was replaced by Josh van der Flier. He did not make it back out onto the pitch after the assessment.

Simon Zebo (cramp) and Tadhg Furlong (dead leg) both look likely to be fit to play this weekend, while Rory Scannell and Stuart Olding have both been called into the team as cover.
