Positive approach setting new records in the Guinness PRO12

Attacking rugby and positive play across the Guinness PRO12 has seen a record number of tries scored so far this season.

316 tries have been scored in 58 games as the teams head into their back-to-back games in European competition.

On top of the record try haul, the teams have collected an impressive 33 try-bonus points between them with the average game seeing 5.5 tries scored per match.

This attacking brand of play has also transferred into European competition with 81 tries scored by PRO12 clubs as we head into the weekend.

Martin Anayi, CEO of the PRO12, said: "It's a great credit to the players and coaches involved across the Championship who are willing to take risks in attack to get over the try-line and provide an entertaining brand of rugby for their fans.”

"It's worth remembering, too, that positive play cannot take place without our officials doing their best to reward teams who want to play attacking rugby and adhere to the directives,” he added.

Leinster are the first Irish province in action this Friday. They travel to Franklin's Garden to take on Northampton. Montpellier welcome Castres in the other group match. The Dublin side top the pool of six points but each team has won one and lost one of their opening two games.

On Saturday, Ulster welcome Clermont Auvergne to the Kingspan Stadium needing a win the keep pace with the pool leaders. Exeter entertain Bordeaux on Sunday.

Munster host old rivals Leicester at Thomond Park on Saturday while Glasgow travel to Paris to face Racing Metro.

Connacht, who top their pool, travel to Coventry to play second place Wasps in what promises to be a lively affair. Zebre welcome Toulouse to Italy on Saturday night.

In the other group, champions Saracens host Sale while Toulon welcome the Scarlets to the south of France.
