SOCCER - CHAMPIONSHIP

Fulham are in pole position to reach the Championship play-off final.

Josh Onomah and Neeskens Kebano gave the Cottagers a 2-nil victory at Cardiff in the first-leg of their semi-final.

Aleksandar Mitrovic missed the game through injury for Fulham but he's expected to be back for Thursday's second leg.

KLOPP LMA AWARD

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he's "absolutely delighted" to have been named the League Managers Association's 'Manager of the Year'.

He's received the accolade after leading the Reds' to their maiden Premier League title and a first English top-flight success in 30-years.

Sheffield United manager - and last year's winner - Chris Wilder came second, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth picked up third place and Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa was recognised in fourth.

LALLANA

Adam Lallana believes joining Brighton was the perfect move for the next stage of his career.

The England midfielder has signed a three-year contract with Graham Potter's side.

Lallana was a free agent after leaving Premier League champions Liverpool at the end of his contract.

Former Tottenham captain Ledley King will join the clubs coaching staff next season.

In an interview, manager Jose Mourinho says he's looking forward to working alongside a Tottenham legend.

GALWAY RACES

Trainer Ado McGuinness is aiming to win today's feature race at the Galway Races, the Colm Quinn B-M-W Mile handicap, for a second consecutive year later.

Defending champion Saltonstall will be ridden by in-form jockey Gavin Ryan.

Today's feature goes to post at a quarter-to-seven with the first race of the day at Ballybrit set to go off at a quarter-to-five.

Ireland could play up to six test matches before the end of this year.

Andy Farrell's side are set to complete their Guinness Six Nations campaign with games against Italy and France in October.

They'll then have a two-week break before taking on Fiji, Wales and England in a new eight-team tournament which gets underway in mid-November.

SNOOKER

There was disappointment for Dubliner Fergal O’Brien last night in the World Snooker Championship qualifiers in Sheffield.

He lost 10-9 to China’s Liang Wenbo - the match had lasted seven hours before Wenbo clinched it with a break of 141.

Three-time Crucible semi-finalist Alan McManus is also through to the main draw of 32 for the tournament, which takes place from this Friday until August 16th.

Nottingham cueist Anthony Hamilton also qualified.
