Northampton could face investigation over team selection against Leinster

Leinster ran in nine tries on Saturday night at the Aviva against Northampton, but it seems that the Premiership side may yet face an investigation as a result of the team they fielded on the night.

Adam Byrne, Luke McGrath, Sean O'Brien, Tadhg Furlong, Sean Cronin, Isa Nacewa and Rory O'Loughlin ran in the scores for the home side, who eased their way to a 60-13 win.

Northampton are now out of contention for the knockout stages of the tournament, and left a number of players out of their starting XV for the game against Leinster, including Courtney Lawes, Tom Wood, Luther Burrell and Louis Picamoles.

According to the BBC, European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) will look at the team selection made by Saints for the game, as is routine with all team selections, and decide whether or not there is a case for the club to answer.

EPCR will make a decision on the matter on Monday, when they will also be ruling on the whether Northampton will face any sanction for how they dealt with a recent head injury sustained by George North in a match against Leicester.

North landed awkwardly after a mid-air tackle from Adam Thompstone, but was controversially allowed to return to the field of play shortly afterwards. North was sent to an independent neurologist to assess his condition, and will be out of action until he has been cleared to return to action.
