Nathan White to join Connacht's backroom team

Three months since he announced his retirement, former Connacht prop Nathan White looks set to move into coaching with the province.

Having had to retire based on medical advice following a concussion injury, the 13-times capped Ireland prop has joined Pat Lam's backroom team, until the end of the season.

Former Munster player Mossy Lawler, who has been working with the province behind the scenes, is to replace Dave Ellis as a skills coach. Ellis is returning to New Zealand to join Auckland Blues.

"Nathan White has been helping us out", head coach Pat Lam told the Irish Examiner, ahead of this weekend's game against Munster. "Mossy Lawler has been helping out as well. And obviously Jimmy [Duffy], Conor [McPhillips] and myself, so there are five of us."

"Whitey has been good, particularly with the RTPs [return to play protocols]. Whitey has been in there a bit when he has been injured. Whitey has the ambition to do coaching as well. So this is a good step for him."

Connacht are in the midst on an injury crisis. Over 20 players are unavailable for this weekend's game at home to Munster. Captain John Muldoon and Ultan Dillane were injured in last week's loss to Ulster. The duo may miss the upcoming game in The Sportsground.
