Munster and Leinster fixture rearranged for January 23rd

Munster and Leinster will meet at Thomond Park on Saturday January 23rd, after the PRO14 confirmed their revised fixture list.

The sides had been due to face off in Limerick on St Stephen's Day, before the game was postponed due to Covid-19 fears in the Leinster camp.

It had initially been expected that the sides would play their refixture during the Six Nations window, which would have meant a number of key players being unavailable on both sides.

But after rounds three and four of the Heineken Champions Cup were postponed yesterday, the PRO14 have brought their meeting ahead to Saturday, January 23rd, with a 7.35pm kickoff at Thomond Park.

And with both teams resting their international players over the Christmas period, it's expected that Johann van Graan and Leo Cullen will be able to field strong starting teams for the highly anticipated game.

Munster remain clear at the top of Conference B, after bouncing back from their only defeat of the season when they beat Connacht on Saturday last, while Leinster remain second in Conference B behind Ulster. However, Leo Cullen's side would have the opportunity to overtake the leaders owing to their games in hand.

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh will meet this Saturday, the 16th of January, after their round 9 meeting had also initially been postponed.

A statement from the PRO14 reads:

"The Guinness PRO14 can confirm that the Round 9 Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh Rugby and Munster Rugby v Leinster Rugby fixtures have been rescheduled and will take place in the coming weekends.

"PRO14 Rugby is grateful to each of its stakeholders for their flexibility and cooperation in rearranging these fixtures."

These are the only two games to be played by the vacated European window, meaning both Connacht and Ulster will be without any competitive action for the next fortnight.
