Wales prop Wyn Jones has been ruled of the British and Irish Lions first test against South Africa after he suffered a minor shoulder during a training session on Thursday.
It was hoped that he would make a recovery in time for the first test, however Jones has been rule out for this weekend's fixture. He is expected to be fit and ready for the second test.
Scottish prop Rory Sutherland has been brought in to replace Jones in the starting XV, while England's Mako Vunipola has been brought into the 23 to cover from the bench.
The Lions' head coach Warren Gatland expressed his sympathy for the 29-year-old Jones, as it was to be his first test start for the tourists.
"It's really bad luck for Wyn and we all feel for him missing out on tonight's game," Gatland said. "However, we're confident he'll be back in training next week and have no plans to bring in anyone else at this stage."
Jones has been in particularly good form throughout the series thus far, and was one of the standout Lions in a losing effort to the South Africa 'A' side that handed them their only defeat of the year.
His scrummaging in particular in that match was dominant over Trevor Nyakane, who will start for the Springboks today in the first test, making Jones' loss particularly disappointing for the tourists.
