Keith Wood: I would enjoy playing for Connacht

Keith Wood joined Ruaidhri O'Connor and Joe Molloy for Monday Night Rugby, and explained why he feels rugby players would enjoy playing for Andy Friend's Connacht side.

The discussion came after Andy Friend's side narrowly lost 31-24 to Munster at the Sportsground over the weekend, but positives are available to those looking for them, according to Keith.

"I like the way they play. I have to say: one of the things that I think we bypass every now and then is that rugby is about enjoyment. Not just for the fans, but also for the players.

"They haven't enjoyed losing those games, but they are playing a style that most rugby players would be saying 'I wouldn't mind having an old cut at that'. There's a bit of freedom to it, too."

Connacht & young prospect

It was a Connacht youngster that also caught Keith's attention, in the province's Tom Farrell.

"The journalists would normally have chapter and verse on all these guys, but I was looking at him saying 'Where the hell did he come out of?'

"I know I have seen him before, but you kind of need a stand-out performance sometimes if the name isn't up there. I thought the [Arno Botha try] was half of a joke of a try, but that wasn't why he played so well the other day.

"I thought he played very well defensively, and I thought he played really well in attack. He looked really sharp and a really balanced runner, and he's a player that suits Connacht."

Connacht face Sale Sharks this weekend, and Bordeaux in the Challenge Cup in the coming weeks - they will hope that Farrell's development continues apace.
