Keith Earls has signed a one-year extension to his central contract with the IRFU.

The 33-year old will remain with Munster until at least the end of the 2021-22 season.

Earls becomes the fourth Ireland player north of 30 to be rewarded with a new central contract, following on from Jonathan Sexton, Cian Healy and his provincial teammate Peter O'Mahony.

The Moyross winger made his international debut against Canada in 2008, and in his 91 caps has become Ireland’s second top try scorer of all time.

"Munster and Ireland are building strong squads with exciting talent coming through ensuring two very competitive environments," Earls said after penning his new deal.

"I want to play a role for Munster this season and next and I am as passionate as ever about pulling on the green jersey and being successful with Ireland."

IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora added, "Keith is a vastly experienced senior international player who continues to perform for both Ireland and Munster.

"He is a model professional and sets a great example for young players coming through in both the provincial and national environments."

Earls started Ireland's first two matches of this season's Six Nations, but his first try of the campaign came in the final minute of the 48-10 win away to Rome when he was a half-time replacement for Jordan Larmour.
