Ireland will end their period of mourning their World Cup qualifier disappointment next month.

Adam Griggs' team have lined up a pair of autumn internationals.

They will play the United States on Friday, November 12, and eight days' later they take on Japan. The venues are yet to be confirmed.

The Americans are ranked sixth in the world, and have long since qualified for next year's World Cup.

The matches will be Ireland's first since a last-minute defeat to Scotland cost them a place at the finals in New Zealand.

Since then, Claire Molloy has confirmed her international retirement and the IRFU has promised a review into Ireland's failure to qualify for the World Cup.

"We’re looking forward to two Test matches on home soil this November," said Ireland captain Ciara Griffin, "and we’re excited about the opportunity to play in front of our supporters again.

"The group will reassemble in the coming weeks and put the building blocks in place ahead of two big tests.

"A Friday night game under the lights promises to be a special occasion and we hope to see as many of our supporters as possible.”

IRFU Director of Women’s and Sevens Rugby, Anthony Eddy added, “We’re delighted to confirm these two Test matches against quality opposition, with both USA and Japan set to provide a big challenge during the November window.

"It’s a good opportunity for the group to get back on the pitch and also provides opportunity for other players to perform at this level and showcase their talent on the international stage.”
