Ireland through to Women's Rugby World Cup semi-final

Ireland have secured a semi final spot at the Women's Rugby World Cup.

Tries in either half from Sharon Lynch, and one each for Tania Rosser, Siobhán Fleming, Vicki McGinn and a penalty try helped Ireland to a 40-5 5 win over Kazakhstan. Ireland, who had made 10 changes from the win over New Zealand, struggled to control the game for long stages and ultimately it was superior fitness that appeared to make the significant difference, with late tries putting a welcome gloss on the result.

Jackie Shiels, in at 15 as a replacement for Niamh Briggs, kicked 10 points, sending over five conversions from six.

The win secures Ireland top spot in Pool B. Ireland’s opponents will be known by the end of the day, following three other games to be played this afternoon.
