Glasgow's Gregor Townsend gave up watching Munster's win over Racing earlier than he hoped

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend was a interested spectator in Munster's facile victory over Racing 92 on Saturday afternoon.

Munster returned to the top of Pool 1 in the Champions Cup after their bonus-point win over the Parisian side. The 32-7 win over Racing saw Munster overtake their Pro12 rivals at the top of the pool.

Glasgow were playing later that evening in the Pro12, and Townsend admitted he and his coaches lost interest in the Paris encounter sooner than they hoped they would.

"We watched it, the coaches, and switched it off after half-time when the result was a foregone conclusion," Townsend told BBC Scotland after the team's 29-15 win over Cardiff Blues.

"Munster played really well. Racing were out of the tournament. They chose to mix up their team and there was only one team that dominated the game.

"The tournament is what it is. You have to play the opposition you're up against. We played Racing at the beginning and that's just the way it is. We played really well to win both those games."

With Munster leading the Pool by three points, the game between the two teams in Scotstoun next Saturday could decide the Pool 1 winners. Townsend is still hopeful of advancing to the quarter-finals, despite the result in Paris.

"It does make it tough for us in that we'll have to win our last two games to qualify."
