This week on Off The Ball we're talking about:
The politicians charged with coming up with a vision for the future of Irish sport. They really covered themselves and their profession in glory this week with an orgy of "bantz" and some sloppy unfocused questions when presented with a chance to seek answers from the three leaders of our biggest sports. We interviewed the chair of the Committee on Wednesday night - you can listen here:
There's no doubt that our politicians are busy, that the clientelist nature of our parliament and the lack of power that local councils have means they spend way too much time on their constituency issues. However there is no excuse for the lack of vision, coherence and insight we say midweek. We'll be following up on this.
This weekend we'll be talking about:
The European Champions Cup as it's currently constituted doesn't have a whole heap up for grabs heading into the final weekend of group games. It's a pity that there aren't a few more games with proper meaning. From an Irish perspective we're not too worried about that. A losing bonus point from Connacht will make this a brilliant campaign from the Irish provinces and keep the momentum cooking ahead of the Six Nations. We'll be live at Ravenhill as Ulster try and salvage some pride from a very difficult campaign against Bordeaux, before we head to Thomond Park which will be rocking as Ronan O'Gara returns.
Don't miss this weekend:
The Atlanta Falcons are the latest team to take on Aaron Rodgers. Don't miss it. Rodgers is playing like he's controlled by some unbeatable Artificial Intelligence unit that humankind hasn't yet discovered. Atlanta are scoring from everywhere on the field, it's in a dome and a place in the Super Bowl is up for grabs. If you only watch one American football game this year, watch this one.
