GALLERY: Saracens overcome Clermont in Champions Cup final

Saracens have retained the European Rugby Champions Cup final after defeating French side Clermont Auvergne 28-17 in the final at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium.

The English Premiership led throughout to follow up last season's final win over Racing 92 with another triumph.

They enjoyed a blistering start with early tries from Chris Ashton and George Kruis, as well as an Owen Farrell conversion leaving them 12-0 up within 23 minutes.

But Clermont fought back- not for the last time in the match - Remi Lamerat's converted try pulled it back to 12-7.

Nick Abendanon's second half try on 52 minutes and Morgan Parra's conversion left one point between the sides at 15-14.

Farrell and Parra exchanged penalties as the match stayed tightly balanced until Alex Goode's crucial try seven minutes from time swung the advantage Saracens way before Owen Farrell's conversion and penalty left 11 points between the teams at the final whistle.

The defeat for Clermont is their third from three in the final of a European flagship competition after 2012-13 and 2014-15.
