"We were nowhere near our best" - Eddie Jones promises more from England

Overseeing the first home defeat Ireland have suffered in the Six Nations under Joe Schmidt, Eddie Jones proclaimed that his England side have not yet begun to peak.

In what many suspected would be a game that Ireland ought to win, Jones' England started with an intensity that the head coach was keen to praise in his post-match comments.

"I think the intensity with which we played," Jones noted of what had been the most pleasing aspect for him in a 32-20 win.

"When you play against Ireland at home, you know it's going to be a physical game.

"So we came prepared for that, and we knew we had to win that battle to win the game.

"You know, some games are immensely physical, some more tactical, but we went in there, ripped in and probably shaded them a bit in that area.

Conceding that he was well aware of Ireland's standing under Schmidt, the former Australia and Japan head coach promised results like these would not be a one-off.

"We're a team that's still growing," Jones said of the side he took control of in 2015.

"We're nowhere near our best.

"So, we're looking forward to playing better than that, and we will.

"What I'm pleased for is our players, and our players deserve all the credit.

"You know they've worked hard, come together in the space of 10-days and played a good game of rugby today, and made their country proud."

After tonight's win, Eddie Jones and England will now look toward a tie with France at Twickenham next weekend.
