Connacht have confirmed the loan signing of Munster winger Alex Wootton.
The 25-year-old former Irish Sevens international has joined Andy Friend’s side until the end of the 2020/21 season.
He's linked up with the squad in Galway this week, as they began their pre-season camp, ahead of the Pro 14's resumption in August.
Head coach Andy Friend says Wootton will be a big addition to their back-three options for the next 12 months.
"I am really pleased to welcome Alex Wootton to the province. Alex is a very exciting back three player who has all the talent to take his game to the next level. His versatility across the back line will also help us as we look to compete on both fronts next season. As a Team, we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the Sportsground and integrating him into the playing squad."
Wootton has featured just twice for Munster in the current season, having struggled to regain his place following a knee injury, and Munster's head coach Johann van Graan says it's a sensible move for a player looking to regain first team experience.
"Alex is a great person and a talented player, we wish him all the best at Connacht. “Unfortunately, he got injured over the past year and struggled to fight his way back into the team. He’s looking for playing time and we wish him well with the move."
Wootton himself says he's keen to make an impact at the Sportsground in the remainder of this season, and next.
“I am delighted to be joining Connacht Rugby for the upcoming season. After speaking to Andy and the rest of the coaching team it’s clear that this is a team full of ambition and belief, and I want to play my part in that. I can’t wait to meet the rest of the squad and begin preparations for what I’m sure will be a very exciting season," he says.
