Connacht add three to senior squad amidst injury crisis

Connacht's luck this season has gone from bad to worse at times and Jack Carty's injury during their defeat to Ospreys last weekend constituted their latest bout of poor fortune.

The Guinness PRO12 champions star fly-half picked up a knee injury during their defeat to the Welsh side at the Liberty Stadium. Connacht entered the game with 20 first team players unavailable and have moved to ease the pressure on their squad by bringing in three replacements on Tuesday afternoon.

Munster outhalf Steve Crosbie and centre Tom Farrell have been added to the senior squad for the remainder of the season. Loosehead prop Peter McCabe has also joined the province on a loan deal from Munster.

Crosbie, 23, can also play in midfield and joins the province on the back of a short term contract with Munster where he made two appearances for Munster A side in the British & Irish Cup in December.

The former Ireland U20's player originally came through the Leinster academy system and made two Guinness PRO12 appearances at the beginning of the 2014/15 season. At U20 level, he represented Ireland at the 2013 Six Nations.

Midfielder Tom Farrell joins from English Championship side Bedford Blues. The 23-year-old made 12 appearances this season and having played with Lansdowne RFC, came through the Leinster Academy.

He also represented Ireland at both U19 and U20 level. Farrell met up with the squad on Monday afternoon and was added to the province's European Rugby Champions Cup squad ahead of their clash with Italian side Zebre this weekend.

McCabe also joins the province on loan from Munster and as cover for current front row injuries.

The 23-year-old prop lined out on a number of occasions for Munster As after making his B&I Cup debut in the 2015 quarter-final against Doncaster Knights.

He made his senior debut in the Guinness PRO12 this season, coming on as a replacement against the Ospreys. The Cork native also started in Munster's friendly against the Maori All Blacks at Thomond Park, which they won 27-14.
