Bundee Aki makes lovely gesture to Connacht's Jack Carty after winning man of the match award

Connacht clinched a two point win against London Wasps yesterday via a last minute Naulia Dawai try and conversion from Jack Carty.

Carty's place-kicking has come in for criticism following two misses in last weekend’s defeat to Wasps in the away fixture. But from an acute angle, Carty maintained his composure to split the posts and keep the western province in contention of claiming a place in the Champions Cup quarter-finals.

It was a victory that comes in the aftermath of the unexpected announcement that their head coach Pat Lam will be leaving at the end of the season to take up a role at Bristol.

Connacht fan favourite Bundee Aki was awarded the man-of-the-match award following the victory which was presented to him in an interview alongside Carty.

After accepting the gong Aki turned to his teammate and, out of respect for Carty's brilliant kick, tried to give him the award.

Carty also earned the praise of the head coach, who applauded Carty for how he has responded to his critics and also pointed out that the out-half did some extra goal-kicking practise this week ahead of the game.

"He stepped up and I was just so pleased for him and his family to be able to win a game for Connacht. He’s quite emotional, we’re all emotional about it."
