The ticket ballot for the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa is live from today, and will remain open until September 16th.

For the first time, supporters have the opportunity to purchase tickets for stand-alone test matches by way of a lottery-type ballot system.

Registration for the ticket ballot is open from Wednesday on the Lions’ official website, and will be open until 5pm on September 16th.

As the demand is expected to outweigh supply, registration for the ballot does not guarantee a ticket.

For those wishing to guarantee their place on the tour, Lions Travel Packages are available, which include all travel costs and accommodation, as well as tickets for the selected match packages.

Once registration for the ballot has been completed, successful applicants will be notified via email.

They will be required to complete payment for their selected tickets within a specified time scale.

As this is not a first come first served ticketing system, the B&I Lions see this as the fairest and most equal way for individuals and couples to purchase tickets.

The Lions Tour

The Lions will tour South Africa in July and August 2021, with eight matches scheduled over the tour.

The last time the Lions toured South Africa was in 2009, two years after the Springboks had won their second World Cup.

The tourists won all six of their tour matches against the provincial teams, and drew 13-13 with the Emerging Springboks.

However, the Springboks won the test series 2-1, after winning the first two Tests of the series.

They will take on the World Champion Springboks in three tests, on July 24th, 31st and August 7th.

Additionally, one tour match will be played against a South African Invitational side and South Africa A on July 7th and 14th respectively.

Tour matches against the Stormers, Sharks and Bulls will complete the tour on July 3rd, 10th and 17th respectively.

Prior to arriving in South Africa, the Lions will a home fixture against Japan as a warm-up for the tour in Murrayfield.
