Australia's Dean Mumm escapes punishment for Tadhg Furlong tackle

Dean Mumm has escaped further sanction for his tackle on Tadhg Furlong, meaning he is clear to line out against England this weekend.

Mumm was summoned to a hearing in London today, where an independent Disciplinary Committee ruled that the first half tackle, which saw Mumm spend 10 minutes in the sin-bin, did not merit a red card.

Referee Jerome Garces reviewed the incident after the Australian flanker lifted Furlong and issued a yellow card. Mumm was subsquently cited by independent commissioner Peter Larter.

A statement from the hearing reads:

"The Disciplinary Committee then concluded that, although Mr Mumm had committed an act of foul play (as he had accepted), the particular circumstances of the incident meant that Mr Mumm's actions would not have warranted a red card,” today’s statement read.

"Accordingly, no sanction was imposed and Mr Mumm is therefore free to resume playing immediately."

Previously, New Zealand pair Sam Cane and Malakai Fekitoa were both brought before hearings following separate incidents in the second clash between Ireland and the All Blacks.

Malakai Fekitoa was issued a one-week ban for his high challenge on Simon Zebo while Sam Cane escaped punishment for his collision with Robbie Henshaw which saw the Ireland centre stretchered off.
