"He actually scored a hat-trick, too" | Garry Ringrose delight as brother also scores treble for UCD

Leinster's Garry Ringrose spoke of family delight after he scored a hat-trick in 'Les Bleus' opening round Champions Cup victory earlier this afternoon.

The Leinster man's treble wasn't the only hat-trick scored by the Ringrose household after Garry replicated his brother's efforts from earlier in  the day.

Leo Cullen's Leinster side kicked-off their Champions Cup campaign with a 33-19 victory over Benetton Rugby in the RDS.

Leinster earned a bonus-point over the Italians with Garry Ringrose running in a hat-trick for last season's Champions Cup runners-up.

In all honesty, the first-half was sluggish from the Pro-14 Champions but the Dublin based side showed moments of quality amongst a mountain of errors.

Ireland's World Cup returning centre spoke with Off The Ball after today's game.

"I think after every game there will be things to improve on, and that's the challenge for us now - to go back a look on it and see how we can be better,' added the UCD man.

The warm up was unsettling preparation after Joe Tomane sustained an injury and was ruled out with a tight hamstring. Rory O’Loughlin stepped into the starting XV in his place.

Ringrose went over in the corner for Leinster’s first try after 6 mins and added a second just eight minutes later. The Ireland centre completed his first hat-trick for the province on 68 minutes with an incisive finish, he praised his teammate's effort for creating the space for the touch down.

"It's when there's men in motion around me, then the gap can kind of open up for me. So, I think it's a combination of everyone."

It capped off a special day for the Ringrose family after his younger sibling Jack starred in UCD's AIL victory over Terenure earlier in the day.

"Ah yeah, delighted - Also coming in I got told my younger brother won for UCD against Terenure. He also got a hat-trick, too."
