Martin O'Neill says the door is open for Roy Keane to join him at Nottingham Forest.
O'Neill has become the 13th Nottingham Forest manager in 8 years. He's aiming to guide the troubled club back to the Premier League.
The former Republic of Ireland boss takes charge of his first Championship game at home to Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.
Incoming Forest manager says Roy Keane has a number of matters to consider.
Including the fact his father has not been well: “I think that he is looking at a number of things. He has a couple of personal things to attend to both personally and professionally.
“Roy took his family away for a few days and has just come back home from America.
“He had things planned and his dad is not well at the moment and he has had to look at that as well too.
“So he has had genuinely very little time to consider anything that was coming his way. I think that is something that he has to make a decision on but, no, it was not something we talked about greatly.”
Keane’s father Mossy reportedly suffered a stroke last November. He was said to be recovering well at home.
Martin O'Neill says he would 'really like' to be reunited with his former Ireland number two
Forest legend Stuart Pearce believes Keane would be a positive presence at the club. He feels Forest will greatly benefit from the experience of someone who like O’Neill would understand what the club is about:
“I've spoken with managers who have gone in and got no connection with Forest.
"Sometimes the expectation weighs down at big clubs," he said.
“It's one of those clubs, with a rich history of winning the biggest trophies.
“If you go in, you've got to handle walking down corridors and seeing Brian Clough on the walls, you've got to emulate and aspire to be at that level.
“Martin can. He's played for him, an outstanding manager, and a clever manager as well. He's the fit that Forest need at the moment.”
