Ian Wright condemns Leicester fans who called Roy Keane an 'Irish ****'

Ian Wright has condemned a proportion of Leicester City fans for anti-Irish language aimed at Roy Keane after the Community Shield on Saturday.

Wright and Keane were in attendance to watch the Foxes' win over Manchester City to claim their second piece of silverware at Wembley in three months.

But it was unpleasant comments directed at Roy Keane at the stadium that Wright felt he needed to call out.

"Let me just clear this up because obviously the Leicester fans know how much respect I got for them and their owners, and I'm constantly bigging up Leicester and what they do," said Wright on Twitter.

"But, I have got to say, where we were today, doing the punditry from the gantry where we were, some of them Leicester fans, doing what they were doing calling Roy an "Irish c***", mouthing the words to me - they know what words they were mouthing to me.

"You let yourselves down, bro - big time. Really disappointed. I am really disappointed on what was a fantastic day for Leicester City fans, them fans, in front of kids doing what they were doing, mouthing and shouting what they were shouting - disgraceful behaviour.

"Leicester, you shouldn't be acting like that. Certain fans - you do not represent Leicester."

Meanwhile, Wright added his voice to the celebrations for Keane's 50th birthday this week.

Contributing to an article for The Athletic, Wright explained how he took time to wind Keane up after winning the Premier League in 1998.

"Me and Roy are really good mates now and it’s good that we’ve had the chance, working together on television, to put any friction behind us," Wright said.

"But when I won the league with Arsenal in 1997-98 you can see me on the pitch holding up my medal to the cameras, with a huge grin on my face. Watch the video, listen carefully for my words. I was sending a message to Roy.

"It was the height of the Arsenal-Manchester United rivalry. Roy used to say, “Ian Wright’s got a trophy cabinet filled with losers’ medals.” So I shouted into the camera, “Look, Roy! I’ve got a winners’ medal!”

I remind him about this now."
