Ronaldo Nazario to Ger Gilroy: "I miss the partying so much!"

Ronaldo Nazario spoke to Off The Ball's Ger Gilroy about his partying lifestyle - and how he misses it!

The legendary Brazilian number nine was in situ at this year's Web Summit, in his position as majority shareholder and owner of La Liga side Real Valladolid. He purchased 51% of the shares in the club in September last year.

But Ronaldo's position as a grandee of football administration is something of a far cry from his days as a player, where his partying abilities were near-enough as prolific as his goalscoring. There was certainly a Carnaval element to his - and team-mate Ronaldinho's - on- and off-pitch antics.

Ronaldo on party lifestyle

It was put to Ronaldo which team partied hardest: the World Cup-winning side of 2002, or the Galáctico-era Real Madrid of the same time.

"I was also the President of the parties! I organised most of the parties.

"My girlfriend now is very happy that I have also retired from the parties - and I miss it so much!"

However deep his longing for a by-gone era, Ronaldo is firm in his conviction that he is on the right path in his current position at Valladolid.

"I am too busy now and I have to focus on what I am doing. The summer is coming, and I used to go to Ibiza to spend holidays with my kids, family and friends.

"I sometimes party there!"

Ronaldo also went into detail about why he looked to go into club ownership, as opposed to coaching or media work.

He explained, "other players always called me 'President' and I didn't know why but I was President of talking to the guys."

"I knew that I would never be the coach because it is too difficult managing 25 young players, each one thinking different things and wanting different things.

"I preferred President [and] being with them.

"It is a big challenge for me because it is not easy competing with the other big clubs and I brought a very good team [to the club] that I know to help me with the administration so we have a lot to do to improve the team but we will keep fighting."
