"You never get tired of watching a race like that" | Paddy Corkery

Horse trainer Paddy Corkery joined OTB Sport to reflect on Master McShee's win at Limerick.

In December, Master McShee flourished at the BoyleSports Faugheen Novice Chase at Limerick, to give jockey Ian Power and trainer Paddy Corkery the biggest win of their careers.

"He was jumping extremely well! Ian had him in a super place all throughout the race. That was what Ian and myself had discussed; how it would pan out. He's a better jumper than most."

Gordon Elliott's Farouk D'alene was the short-priced favourite. However, Master McShee pipped him to win on the final stride.

"It was probably a brave call at the time before the race to put him into a grade one. You put your horse out there, and you expect him to win! If you're playing a county final, you're trilled. If you win a golf tournament, you're thrilled. It all makes the enjoyment that bit better to win!"

Ian Fowler jockeyed Master McShee to victory at Limerick. Corkery discussed how Fowler initially gave up racing prior to winning in December 2021.

"He was on the building sites for a while, he gave up racing. It's a bit like a fella giving up hurling and football. Then he comes back to it after a few years again and something similar revered."

Corkery talked jokingly about how they celebrated the biggest win of their careers whilst in the midst of COVID-19 restrictions.

"I think the pubs closed at eight o'clock. The publican came out and said come in lads we're closing. We went down to the pub and had three or four times then went back to the house and watched the race 100 times. You never get tired of watching a race like that. Money doesn't buy that type of enjoyment."
