Patrick Mullins joined Ger, John and Johnny for this week's Friday Night Racing. With one eye on the events at Leopardstown, and another on some of the highlights from the racing year to come, the wildly successful amateur jockey was on hand to discuss it all.
With Johnny still "burning inside" after some incomprehensible festive results, Patrick was full of praise for David Mullins and his successful Leopardstown run on Kemboy.
"I thought David was fantastic," Patrick said of a performance that showed tremendous ingenuity from the rider.
"He does have a bit of the James Dean about him, he doesn't really care.
"That works for and against him at different times, but, it definitely worked for him this time."
Identifying what the Mullins household will be looking toward for the year ahead, Patrick disclosed the altered approach to things that will be required as the schedule demands.
"Coming out Christmas, we just thought that perhaps we'd been a little easy on our horses," Mullins admitted.
"In the last furlong and a half when usually they're going forward, they were staying the same or going backwards.
"We're going to have to be a little harder on them on home, and then obviously you're going to have to leave a little bit for Cheltenham.
"But Willie [Mullins] does all that by eye, and you know, he'll look at some horses and say, 'he needs to work harder, and he doesn't', but in general I think we're going to work them a bit harder."
Always insightful, the Friday Night Racing interview with Patrick Mullins also came with horses and races to look out for on behalf of John Duggan and Johnny Ward.
