Megan Nicholls spoke about the 'killer instinct' needed to be successful on the race track as part of this week's Friday Night Racing.
The daughter of legendary horse racing trainer Paul makes her Irish debut later this evening at Leopardstown.
Apprentice Jockey Nicholls joined Ger and Johnny to discuss her career to date, whislt delving into the importance of adopting a ruthless mindset in competition.
Megan says her father constantly spoke to her about maintaining a selfish attitude on the track, similar to how he and many other successful riders have gotten to the top of the game.
"When I was riding pony racing dad just drilled it into me. He was like once you're out there, 'no prisoners, don't care,' Literally it's you, your horse - get it done.' the flat jockey told Friday Night Racing.
She maintained a sporty upbringing throughout her school days which helped her obtain a competitive frame of mind. Something she believes is very important to have in a sport such as racing - Nicholls' says it all about getting the over the line.
"I always throughout school had been very sporty, and once you're on the field, it doesn't matter who's there.
Nicholls' says she maintains a good relationship with fellow jockey Katie O'Farrell but says it's all business on the track, and their relationship goes out the window when she enters her competitive mindset.
"Me and Katie are good friends and she has looked after me the last few days I've been here but once you're out there, you don't even think about it.
Megan says they will always be respectful and congratulatory after a race but says there are no pleasantaries dished out beforehand.
"Again, if one of you has a little bit of luck you're the first one to congratulate them, and that's brilliant, but 'actually' during the the time it doesn't even cross your mind,' explained the English jockey.
"Once you're on the field it doesn't matter who's there. You're getting the job done."
