Day two of Limerick Racing Festival cancelled due to waterlogged track

The second day of the Limerick racing festival has been cancelled due to a waterlogged track.

It's a disappointment for racing fans today. The news has come this morning that today's seven-race card in Limerick has been cancelled.

The track was inspected this morning and deemed not fit for racing due to excess surface water.

There was 18mm of rain overnight, which left less than favourable conditions this morning.

In a statement by Horse Racing Ireland, they said "Following an inspection this morning, Limerick was found to be waterlogged and unfit for racing after 18mm of rain overnight. With further rain forecast, the fixture scheduled for today, Sunday 27th December, has been cancelled."

"There will be a further inspection at 8 am tomorrow (Monday) morning, ahead of the fixtured scheduled for 28th December."

Leopardstown goes ahead as scheduled

Despite heavy rainfall in the east of the country overnight, conditions have held up at the track at Leopardstown.

Day two of the Leopardstown racing festival will go ahead as planned today.

A seven-race card gets underway from 5-past-12 as the Christmas Festival continues.

The Gordon Elliott trained Roaring Bull will look to defend his title in the feature race of the day - the Paddy Power Steeplechase at 5-to-3.

The Willie Mullins trained Chacun Pour Soi meanwhile will go off the favourite in the Paddy's Rewards Club Steeplechase at 10-past-1.

And in the other Grade One of the day the Gordon Elliott trained Ballyadam, with Jack Kennedy on board, will look to follow up on his impressive win at Fairyhouse last month.
