Rachael Blackmore on Cheltenham win | 'Every jockey's dream'

Rachael Blackmore has spoken of her absolute delight at winning on Honeysuckle in the Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival.

It was a brilliant win for Blackmore, against heavy favourite Benie Des Deux on day one of the showpiece horse racing festival.

The Tipperary native spoke of her delight at the 'unbelievable' experience.

"She is just such a special mare and for her to produce like that every day she runs is just unbelievable," said Blackmore.

"She is so tough and she is such a credit to everyone that looks after her.

"Henry has her producing in tip-top shape every day that she goes racing.

"It is just such a pleasure to be involved with her."

As for the race itself, Blackmore rode astutely on the inside and turned on the pace in the final furlongs.

"She has plenty in the tank, which is what you want when you are coming up that hill.

"Ah look, it is just fantastic to be involved with someone like her is unbelievable.

"She is just a credit to everyone involved with her."

Cheltenham for Blackmore

As for her personal experience at Cheltenham, Blackmore was not taking anything for granted.

"It is brilliant. To be in the position that I am in, with the rides that I have had, is every jockey's dream.

"I am going to try and make the most of it."

Blackmore's first Grade 1 success in Ireland came on Honeysuckle in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final at Fairyhouse on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019.

She ended that season with 90 winners, easily securing the runner-up spot in the jockeys' championship behind Paul Townend.
