Ireland and Arsenal defender Louise Quinn has said that she and her teammates are in the dark over who will be the next Ireland Women’s national team boss.
Speaking on OTB’s Deadline Day Special she said, “We literally have no idea. We’re hearing what everyone else is hearing.”
“I just want the best person for the job. I want a coach that is going to be determined to take us forward and want to qualify for Euros and have a good coaching plan. Whoever that is, that’s who I want,” Quinn said.
With the adversity that this team has faced in the past, from getting changed in airport toilets and sharing tracksuits, this was just another bump in the road to get over for Quinn and her teammates.
“We’ve got to take it as players and not let it affect us in that way and that’s also what the USA trip did for us.
"We were able to chat about it and get it out of our system and if we had any worries we all just came together to chat it out.
“That’s the thing, now once we go into this Montenegro camp it’s going to be fresh.
"It’s not going to be about the ‘what ifs’ or ‘what could’ve beens.’ It’s about the new coach that comes in and we’re just going to concentrate on them and the Euros.
“That’s all we can do, we’ve been through a lot as a team and this is just another thing that is going to make us stronger again,” Louise Quinn said.
Taking on the world champions
The Irish squad travelled to the USA to take on the world champions and Quinn felt that it was good preparation despite missing players and lacking a head coach.
“I think we really did pull together as a team. We were missing quite a few players because it wasn’t an international break and not having a head coach.
“We just looked at the week as it being an extra week of training to get ourselves ready for the Euros and it was a massive occasion as well to be playing against the world champions - it was a good week,” the Arsenal player said.
Despite the result, they enjoyed the experience of playing the USA and gearing up for their upcoming European Championship qualification game against Montenegro.
“We really learned about organisation, it’s a massive thing defensively, but then we had to learn how to counterattack efficiently and get set-pieces out of dangerous situations,” she said.
