Put your medals on the table! | Souness responds to Pogba remark

Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness has responded to Paul Pogba's claim that he didn't know who Souness was after criticism of the Frenchman by the Scot.

World Cup winning midfielder Pogba has been on the receiving end of regular digs by Souness, who has applauded the Manchester United man's talent, but not his attitude to football.

Pogba told a Manchester United podcast that he was unaware of who Souness was in the game.

“I didn’t even know who he was, really,” he said. “I heard he was a great player and stuff like that. I know the face but (not) the name.

“Like I said, I’m not someone that watches a lot of (punditry), I watch a lot of football but I don’t stay after the game to listen to what they say about ‘Why they did this’ or ‘Why they did that’. I like to focus on football.”

Souness won five League titles and three European Cups with Liverpool, and was player manager when Rangers won the League in Scotland.

Speaking on SKY Sports, Souness laughed off the remarks.

"The oldest saying in football comes to mind. Put your medals on the table.

Pogba has been injured for most of the now truncated season and he is treating punditry as water off a duck's back.

"I guess they miss me, I don't know? I'm not someone that looks at always at Sky News," he said.

"I am used to it now. I am really used to it, it doesn't bother me. It's good to hear good stuff instead of bad stuff but when you play football, you know yourself. It's what your manager and team-mates want, the rest is just talk. It's selling stuff I think."
