With Manchester United being 14th in the Premier League, it is clear they are struggling. Damien Delaney thinks Mauricio Pochettino and Edwin van der Sar could be the answer.
United have previously spoken about appointing a Director of Football and Van der Sar was one of the names that was floated around.
Delaney thinks that United's current CEO Ed Woodward, should take a step back and let van der Sar and Pochettino take the reigns.
"First and foremost it needs to start at the top and Ed Woodward needs to go away into his office.
"He needs football people making the decisions and I think Pochettino and Van der Sar just look like the perfect team," Delaney said.
For him, the Argentinian manager would be able to get the best out of the young players at the club.
"The current squad United have is underperforming, they have got some good talent there.
Transfer strategy
"The potential is there that is why United signed them, they just need a manager to manage them.
"Van der Sar would have the scouting network in place around Europe as well," The former Crystal Palace defender said.
Making the right signings is key under any new regime and when comes to United's current transfer strategy he was not impressed.
"They have spent massive amounts of money but just in an inconsistent way.
"You end up with a mish-mash of players of five different styles and none of the players are marrying up.
"If Pochettino and Van der Sar can get on the same page hopefully they can get them where they want to be," Delaney said.
