Pat Nevin would love to see Arsene Wenger at Barcelona

While a section of Arsenal fans feel the time has come for Arsene Wenger to leave the club, the manager himself intends to continue coaching for another four years - preferably at Arsenal.

It's unclear if that will be at Arsenal with a decision to be made in a couple of months time.

There was a time when Wenger used to be courted by the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid during the era when Arsenal regularly challenged for Premier League titles.

But if he were to leave the Emirates it's not so likely that those same clubs would come calling these days.

Barcelona may have a vacancy given the pressure that is also around their manager Luis Enrique.

Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin doesn't see Wenger being the first port of call if Barca part ways with their 2015 Champions League winning coach. But he would love to see it happen.

"If I were at a very, very top club, I would be looking for the best kid on the block - and it's not Arsene, even though he's a good fit," said Nevin on Off The Ball, although that it be within the realms of possibility as a "stop gap".

"If they need someone between the one they've got and the one they need to get quite soon after that, he'd do brilliantly.

"Funnily enough, I'd love to see it. I'd really like to see it because what he's trying to do at Arsenal is 'Baby Barcelona' and it's never quite worked to that level. Well, if you give him some of the very best players on the planet, it may actually be absolutely brilliant.

"But if it were me, I wouldn't be diving into that one."
