Former Ireland and Chelsea defender Paddy Mulligan believes Liverpool have a busy summer ahead should they secure Champions League football.
The Reds are close to a Top Four finish after thrashing West Ham 4-0 on Sunday but have managed to get through the season with a smaller squad than most of their rivals.
"What they need is around eight or nine players to come in because their squad is very, very low," he said, adding that a host of players like Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge were unavailable for periods.
"At one point, you had all those players out and then when you say to yourself, if they're missing all of these players, they've done well to be in the Top Four.
"I think Klopp's done very well to keep them in the Top Four and keep them challenging for a Champions League place because when they look at the bench, they've got absolutely nothing.
"If they get into the Champions League, they're going to have to get a big squad. I'm sure Jurgen Klopp has got no doubt about it and that the club back him financially."
Paddy also lavished praise on Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for what he has managed to achieve this season and his ability as a manager.
"I think he's a very good manager and I think he can only get better. I think he's done very, very well at Liverpool, considering the limited squad that he has," he said.
