WATCH: Donn McClean makes sense of the Bryan Cooper Gigginstown situation

In rather surprise news earlier on Friday, Gigginstown House Stud announced that they are dropping Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Bryan Cooper as their retained jockey.

However, they have insisted that the development does not mean that they have "lost faith" Bryan Cooper, despite dropping him as their No 1 jockey.

The champion owners says they will use the best available riders on a race by race basis for the rest of the season and that will include Cooper.

Kerry native Cooper replaced Davy Russell as the O'Leary's retained jockey in early 2014 and rode Don Cossack to victory in the 2016 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Racing manager at Gigginstown Eddie O'Leary says Cooper will still be employed by them but will no longer have the first pick of horses ahead of races.

He added that the other jockeys Sean Flanagan, Davy Russell and Jack Kennedy will also wear the maroon and white silks for the rest of this season.
