Sinead O'Carroll on TV coverage of women's sports: "I think that is immeasurable in terms of how important it is"

Sinead O'Carroll, Noelle healy and Sarah O'Donovan joined The Saturday Panel on Off the Ball to discuss how to build on the success of the huge crowd which attended the Ladies Gaelic Football final last weekend.

Over 46,000 people turned out at GAA headquarters to watch Dublin beat Mayo by 4-11 to 0-11 last weekend.

Asked about the reasons why there is an increased interest in the Ladies game, Sinead O'Carroll said: "I think there's a mixture of things. I think it's huge praise to the Ladies Football Association for making really smart business decisions like the TG4 deal.

"I think when you can turn on your TV every week and see the sport - I think that is immeasurable in terms of how important it is for that game and obviously the sponsorship with Lidl the last two years.

"You see Sarah Rowe on billboards...it's so visible so your interest is piqued. You know, marketing works," she added.

Sarah O'Donovan went further, saying: "But equally Lidl have obviously chosen a sport that's the fastest growing sport in the country and I'm not going to be cynical but they're targeting the future home-makers of the country -  who are their market for selling food."
