Russian boxing coach tests positive for coronavirus after Olympic qualifiers

A Russian boxing team coach has tested positive for COVID-19 after returning home from the Olympic qualifiers in London last month.

Anton Kadushin, who works world middleweight amateur champion Gleb Bakshi, confirmed on his Instagram page on Thursday that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Kadushin said he experienced symptoms including a high temperature on March 25th, just a few days after returning from the qualifiers, which had to be cut short due to the increased spread of the virus.

He is now at home in self-isolation and the head of Russia’s boxing federation, Umar Kremlev, said in a statement on its website that the situation was under control and that Kadushin had a mild case of the virus.

Kremlev added that there were no coronavirus cases among the Russian boxers who had returned from the event in London last month.
Three members of the Croatian boxing team, as well as two boxers and a coach from Turkey, tested positive for the coronavirus after returning home from the UK.

Former World Elite lightweight champion Kellie Harrington was part of 13-strong Ireland team sent to London.

The Tokyo Games have since been rescheduled for July 2021.
