O'Sullivan To Face Qualifier Cahill At World Snooker Championship

Amateur qualifier James Cahill will play five-time winner Ronnie O'Sullivan in the opening-round of the Betfred World Snooker Championship.

Cahill knocked out Dublin's Michael Judge in the the final round of qualifying yesterday and is looking forward to facing O'Sullivan.

"Playing at the Crucible is what I've dreamed of since I was a kid so to come through that match is a massive stepping-stone.

"I've relished playing against the big names and on the big occasions in the past so hopefully that'll stand me in good stead."

World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn thinks Cahill is a potential 'banana skin' for world number one O'Sullivan.

"The quality coming through on a global scale is incredible. The kid James Cahill can play. If Ronnie thinks he has an easy game, he has got another thing coming."

Defending champion Mark Williams will face Martin Gould in the first match on Saturday while Antrim's Mark Allen will face Zhou Yuelong.
